Hi, In this topic we will share questions regarding general stuff in the Gmat (for example: the gmat structure, answering methods etc...) , and hopefully
get info and tips from whoever will be kind enough to provide.
Thanks, Omer. |

Hi Omer
I know it has taken me way too long, but here are my tips for the GMAT:
1. AWA - learn the basic templates of Irene and start typing them even before you know what you are about to write - it saves a lot of time, and enables you to relax and finish a reasonable text with some spare time. I guess it does not really matter for the score but I think it makes a huge difference for your general feeling. I have funished both texts (short and simple) and had 5-10 minutes left. (I got a score of 4.0).
I have used the spare time to write down some usefull info for the quant. you know - numbers, rules. pythagorean tryplets etc.
The break you take after this part is tricky - they say 10 minutes but you must leave the room (so you can not write anything in the notebook) and once you go back in you must resume the test, even if you did not use the entire 10 minutes.
2. The quant. part was not too hard, I will not say it was easy, but I did not see even one question that could have appeared in Zahi's TIRGULIM, most of the questions were medium - simple, including some very stupid questions towards the end (q.32) - yet I scored a 50, so I guess the stupid questions towards the end were pilot ones. What I am trying to say is that you simply do not have a way of knowing whether you are doing well or not - so simply focus on doing your best and don't assume anything - just work hard.
3. The verbal was "interesting" :
The RC were short (which is good!) I had two texts at the begining and one at the end (q.35-3 each text comprised of only one paragraph. I think it is better to spend some time and read it throughly since then you can answer 4 questions in a row. The questions were OK, not easy but not too hard, they seemed fair to me.
The CR questions were relativley easy - again short texts, and usually I had 3 stupid options which left 2 options that I had to think over and choose from.
The SC was a little bit different from what we are used to, most of the questions (I would say 50-70%) were very similar to the pattern we know (you know - participle modifiers, subject verb agreement etc.) but I also saw some strange questions with weird structure (5-6 questions).
My tip for the verbal part is "try harder" - when I began the sumulations I used the strategy of taking the time and reading more slowly to make sure that I don't miss out anything - but then I had to guess 7 - 12 questions beacuse I did not have enough time. Later I changed the strategy and decided to "HIT THE GAS" and solve questions faster towards the end (of course you take a risk that you'll make mistakes) because I have realised that in most cases, you can very quickly identify 2-3 very bad answer choices and so you are left with a very good chance of choosing the right answer, even if you did not think it over as much as you want to. In the test I had to guess only 2 questions !!
Only when I started using this strategy I have been able to cross the 40 points barrier of the verbal.
I did complete 4 simulation in the week before the test (including writing the essays) -I tried to take them at the same hour of the exam (08:00 a.m)- the main purpose is to get used to the whole effort (and it is on hell of an effort). I think it is very important - the first time you do it, you will be surprised how hard it is, after the seond time you'll notice that you are getting used to it, and after the fourth it will look trivial.
What I did:
GMAT Prep Test1 X 2
PoewerPrep Test1
PowerPrep Test2
GMAT Prep Test2
I did all the 1000SC, Sets 1-7 (sometimes their answers are wrong), HOT Q July - December.
I hope it helps, and I whish you good luck.
I will be more than happy to hear that you passed my score !
So believe in yourslef, be ready to work hard on the test - and I believe you will do very well.
I think that the Meitav course gives you all the tools you need to crack the GAMT.
GOOD LUCK
